If CBCT has low visibility due to scattering, then use a radiopaque tray.
The radiopaque tray serves as a fundamental reference for aligning Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) data with model scan files in STL format. As a result, the R2GATE system shows a complete understanding of the bones in the head from the CBCT image, along with important details about the inside of the mouth. This includes information about teeth, the shape of the gums, and how the teeth come together when biting.
⚠ A radiopaque tray is NOT regular bite registration as it provides radiographic index for CBCT image.
✖ Natural Teeth Only
The natural teeth surrounding the implant site are used as a guide to combine the CBCT image with the 3D model scan file (STL). To ensure precise merging, typically one to two natural teeth on the opposite side are also employed as reference points. R2Tray is not needed as the shape and positioning of nearby natural teeth provide a reliable framework for correctly merging the CBCT and STL data.
✔ Prostheses or Partially Edentulous Arch
A radiopaque tray is required due to lack of index from natural teeth or scanning interference from metal prosthetics.
✔ Fully Edentulous
An alginate impression is taken of the mouth and used to create a model made of stone. Using the stone model, the lab creates a personalized tray that fits the individual’s mouth.
When creating a custom tray, use radiopaque, light-curing preformed tray base material. Most light-curing materials are radiopaque and show clearly on CBCT.
