Proper Bite Registration
The bite registration scan stage is activated after the maxilla and the mandible are scanned.
- First, open the patient’s mouth.
- Retract the cheeks with the scanner.
- Then, tell the patient to bite and scan.
⚠️ If you insert the scanner while the patient is biting, the bite may move.
For a quadrant case, only one side needs to be scanned.
For a full-arch, you must scan the left and right bite.
Start scanning from the back of the posterior up to the canine. Scan in a zigzag motion, acquiring enough maxilla and mandible gingiva scan along with the teeth.
When the bite is matched, the scan will turn green, and a “Ding-dong” alarm will sound, but continue to scan a total of 6-8 teeth per side as the bite will continue to adjust.
⚠️ Avoid scanning the anterior if there is a stable posterior occlusion. Anterior scan should only be scanned when majority of the posterior teeth are missing.
